Annual Giving Program
Through the Annual Giving Campaign, the lodging industry provides much-needed support to students who have chosen hospitality as their career of choice, as well as funds important research to benefit our industry. Combining all of its educational, research, and outreach programs, the Foundation is scheduled to disburse approximately $1.2 million in 2009.
The industry rose to Joe McInerney’s challenge and met the Foundation’s 2009 Annual Giving Campaign goal of $115,000. Joe promised that if the initial goal was met he would report to work at The Carlyle Suites in Washington, D.C. for a day. Additionally, he promised that if $120,000 – a record for the annual giving campaign – was reached, he would also work for a day at the J.W. Marriott in D.C. as well.
Since a total of $120,150 has been collected, Joe is going back to his career beginnings of working at a hotel for two days – it could be the front desk, kitchen, housekeeping, bellman, or laundry. We will keep you updated on the exact date of service, position, and, of course, post any pictures.
In the meantime, start the New Year with a contribution to the 2010 Annual Giving Campaign. Make your donation online or contact Michelle Poinelli at 202-289-3181 or via email at mpoinelli@ahlef.org for more information. All contributions are tax-deductible.
Expanding Hospitality's Workforce
The hospitality workforce is shrinking and the need to cultivate tomorrow's talent pool is great. The Foundation's Workforce Development Initiative is keeping quality professionals in the industry and attracting and educating our future labor pool.
Hospitality as a Career of Choice
Providing high school students with targeted classroom learning and real-life work experience to take advantage of the boundless opportunities in lodging, the Lodging Management Program (LMP) has been implemented in 46 states with more than 7,000 students enrolled in 575 high schools.
Industry Research
Addressing critical issues such as, room tax, ADA requirements, and technology advancement, the Foundation's research program provides information that's crucial to the industry. Since 1995, the Foundation has distributed $2.5 million in research grants to help hoteliers operate more efficiently – ultimately improving your bottom line.
Education for Tomorrow's Leaders
Connecting today's talented youth with the people, programs, and resources they need to become tomorrow's leaders, AH&LEF has awarded approximately $7 million in scholarships since its inception. In 2008, more than $600,000 was awarded to promising students and lodging industry professionals to prepare them for a career in hospitality.
