Scholarship Awards
Award amounts can range from $500 to $3,000 depending upon enrollment and recommended amount from school.
Annual Grant Scholarships are School Nominated, which means students are selected by their respective schools -- not by the Foundation. If you're attending a Foundation-affiliated school, request nomination through AH&LEF's Designated Contact Person.
All student nominees must complete sections 1-3 and 8 of the AH&LEF Scholarship Application. Additionally, under separate cover, participating schools are required to send a nomination form confirming their nominees and providing suggested award amounts. AH&LEF will not consider applicants for these awards without verification from their respective schools. AH&LEF academic scholarship applications are only accepted from January 1 to May 1 each year. Please note that any applications received from May 2 through December 31 will not be reviewed because the information provided will be outdated for the next school year.
Currently 85 universities and colleges are affiliated with AH&LEF and participate in the Annual Scholarship Grant Program. Click here to view the list of participating schools for Annual Scholarship Grants.
These affiliated schools agree to co-administer AH&LEF scholarships with us. In return for receiving an annual scholarship grant, the school selects the student recipients and award amounts based upon AH&LEF criteria, as well as assisting in the disbursement process. View the 2013 Scholarship Manual for a complete accounting of all policies and procedures.
In 2011, the committee reviewed the existing schools and priority ranked 15 new schools that applied for affiliation. Three existing schools were dropped from the program. The top ranked schools were added. The remaining schools were placed on the waiting list in rank order in case additional monies become available over the next few years. It is anticipated that the next review period will be in 2014. Information and school applications will be posted here on this website when available.

"I am very grateful because this scholarship
ensures that I am able to continue my education into the field of hospitality…This
award clearly shows what a great community the hospitality industry has and how
it continues to promote students furthering their education as well as
generating interest within the field…I will be able to give back to other
students who are also interested and tell them what fantastic things the
AH&LEF does for students."

"As I am going into my last semester at Boston University...It is an honor that AH&LA is by my side and helping me in the final stretch. There is so much I want to accomplish, but I cannot do any of it without an education and this scholarship is helping to make that possible...This scholarship is more than just money. It is an investment in my future."

"As a student member of our AH&LA chapter, I
feel very privileged to have been recognized for this scholarship…This
organization has given me the tools I need to learn more about the industry. The
national recognition that AH&LA has is something to be desired, and it has
been a wonderful experience to be a part of this organization. Through the
tours our chapter takes of different properties and the national conferences
that we attend every year, I have been able to network with other industry professionals
and see what type of careers are out there for me after I graduate in the
spring. AH&LA has opened my eyes to see what great opportunities the
hospitality industry has to offer for young professionals like me."
