Arthur J Packard Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors Arthur J. Packard, who never waited for the lodging industry to ask him to volunteer his time and boundless energy.  A third-generation hotelier, his work for AH&LA extended over 30 years -- one of the longest on record.  The Packard Competition provides scholarships to the most outstanding student of lodging management and to two runners-up through an annual competition among Foundation affiliated four-year programs.

Application Process

Packard Scholarships are School Nominated which means students are nominated by their respective schools. If you're attending a Foundation-affiliated four-year school, request nomination through AH&LEF's Designated Contact, or contact Christa Boatman at 202-289-3139 / cboatman@ahlef.org or Michelle Poinelli at 202-289-3181 / mpoinelli@ahlef.org for more information.

All student nominees must complete all sections of the AH&LEF Scholarship Application including Appendix A which requires a recommendation letter from both an employer and instructor. Additionally, under separate cover, participating schools are required to send a nomination form confirming their nominees.  AH&LEF will not consider applicants for this competition without nomination verification from their respective schools. AH&LEF academic scholarship applications are only accepted from January 1 to May 1 each year.  Please note that any applications received from May 2 through December 31 will not be reviewed because the information provided will be outdated for the next school.

Testimonials

"It is an extreme honor to be chosen as a recipient of such a prestigious award. While it may seem that the only purpose of such a scholarship is to ease financial stress, it truly does so much more.  I’m also thankful for the various connections and opportunities that are included as well as the free membership to the association.  I see this scholarship as a stepping stone to a successful future."
