"Having gotten my start in the hospitality industry through the assistance of a scholarship, I recognized early on how valuable these resources can be for students as they begin their careers," said Abji. "I am delighted to be involved in programs financing a new degree of hope and professional prosperity to ambitious individuals who, in a few years, will shape the future of our industry."

Through the Annual Giving Campaign, the lodging industry provides much needed support to students
who have chosen hospitality as their career of choice as well as important research to benefit our industry.
Combining all of its educational, research, and outreach programs, the Foundation distributed almost $1 million in 2007.
Here's what your dollars support:
Expanding Hospitality's Workforce
The hospitality workforce is shrinking and the need to cultivate tomorrow's
talented pool is great. The Foundation's
Workforce Development Initiative is keeping quality professionals in the industry
and attracting and educating our future labor pool.
Hospitality as a Career of Choice
Providing high school students with targeted classroom learning and real-life work
experience to take advantage of the boundless opportunities in lodging, the
Lodging Management Program (LMP) has been implemented in 45 states with
more than 7,000 students enrolled in 575 high schools.
Industry Research
Addressing critical issues such as room tax, energy
management, ADA requirements, green initiatives, and technology advancement, the
Foundation's research program provides information that's important to
the industry. Since 1995, the Foundation has distributed more than $2.4
million in research grants to help hoteliers operate more efficiently
– improving your bottom line.
Education for Tomorrow's Leaders
Connecting today's talented youth with the people, programs, and
resources they need to become tomorrow's leaders, AH&LEF has awarded
approximately $6.5 million in scholarships since its inception. In 2007,
more than $475,000 was awarded to promising students and lodging
industry professionals to prepare them for a career in hospitality.
All contributions are tax-deductible.
