An important part of the AHLEF mission is making grants for research projects. Since 1995, the Foundation has distributed $4 million in grants. Studies fielded explore issues that are critical to our industry, and generate data and insights we use to tell the hotel industry's story. This section provides summaries of past and present projects, and allows you to apply for a grant.
Applying for a research grant
We accept unsolicited applications from individuals or organizations wishing to conduct research in the lodging industry. Applications may be submitted three times a year:
March 15, June 15, and September 15.
All instructions must be followed carefully, and reviewing the summaries of funded research before beginning an application is encouraged.
Research grant application process
The Research and Project Funding Committee, comprised primarily of hotel operators, oversees the grant program and makes funding recommendations to the AHLEF board. Typically, AHLEF budgets about $350,000 each year for research grants.
Applicants should review AHLEF's Research and Project Funding Guidelines and Application Instructions and Application Instructions, FAQs and the sample application before beginning the application process. All funding requests must be submitted through AHLEF's online application, which is currently being updated. The new application link will be posted by the end of the year.
The Research Committee will meet approximately three weeks after the deadline date to review the submissions. All funding recommendations are presented to the AHLEF board before final funding approval is given.
