Serving in the Military to Serving Guests

This year, Veterans Day coincides with National Apprenticeship Week – an effort to highlight those who push themselves to achieve greater success. As we honor all those who have served and are serving, today at the Foundation, we want to recognize someone who has gone from serving our country to serving guests.

Bill Gibson, an Assistant General Manager at NewcrestImage, embodies how veterans are some of our industry’s best leaders.

As a child, Bill saw the hospitality industry firsthand as he watched his mother work for Hilton as a security officer. After retiring from the military in the early 90s, he found a passion in food and beverage and took a role as an Assistant Food and Beverage Banquet Manager. In the last three years, he has developed an interest in running a hotel and enrolled in AHLEF’s Apprenticeship Program to further develop his management skills as an Assistant General Manager. In the next couple of years, he has his sights on becoming a General Manager of a new hotel.

And while he's on this journey, he's bringing others with him. Bill hopes to groom the future leaders of the industry and recommends the hospitality industry to other veterans because he believes that it can lead to a life-long career.

Thank you, Bill for everything you do to make this country – and our industry -- even greater. We salute you!
