TRAIN AND RETAIN: HOSPITALITY APPRENTICESHIP FILLS HIGH-LEVEL JOBS

Growing up in India, Daniel Ovichegan always knew that he wanted to move to the United States to pursue a job in the hospitality industry. That dream became a reality when his family migrated to America, and he got his first job in the food and beverage division of a hotel.

After moving through the ranks at several different hotels, he was hired as an Assistant General Manager at the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Dallas, Texas.

Knowing that Daniel wanted to become a general manager, his boss suggested that he consider AHLEF’s apprenticeship program, which would pair him with a mentor and teach him 1-on-1 the different job competencies of every hotel department, including human resources, sales and marketing, finance, food & beverage, rooms and more. At the same time, he would take accompanying online classes that reinforce the on-the-job training. At the end of the program, he would receive the industry recognized Certified Hospitality Supervisor certification and a pay raise.

Now, Daniel is set to complete his apprenticeship program this October.

To hear his full story and why he highly recommends that others consider the apprenticeship program, tune in to a recent interview AHLEF President Rosanna Maietta and Daniel did with Lodging Leaders. Listen HERE
